I recently found myself craving hibachi, which promptly led to a Google search for the finest grills in my vicinity. Osaka popped up as one of the nearest options with the best reviews. Without missing a beat, I fired off a text to Nichole, proposing an impromptu escape to Mannheim. She accepted my spontaneous proposal, and the rest is history! š„©š„¢š

We should first discuss the difference between the Americanized Hibachi and Teppanyaki. Modern American Hibachi grills are usually electric, whereas the Teppanyaki grills use a propane flame as a heat source š„. Teppanyaki establishments focus more on providing a luxurious and authentic Japanese experience, while Hibachi focuses on providing a more casual, affordable, and entertaining experience š.
If you go to a Teppanyaki establishment in Germany expecting a flaming onion volcano š or cracking egg toss š„, you will probably be a little disappointed. Honestly, I had no idea and I was a bit sad when we didn't get the show I expected š. It was still worth it; I just wish I had known before we went. I could have adjusted my expectations accordingly.

Something they did differently was offer these robes to wear during the experience š!
Ā

Dinner started off with a little kimchi.
Which I was surprised to find I actually like now!
Yum š¤¤.

Then a little veggie sandwich š.

Chicken skewers š¢!

I ordered this Japanese sparkling drink š„. It was fresh, sweet, and lovely! I would definitely order it again.

One funny thing was that some seafood (such as shrimp) was brought out whole and deconstructed/cleaned right then and there š¤ (shown above).

Another example is this lobster š¦.
That's definitely fresh seafood there!

The experience wasn't completely devoid of showmanship! There were two fire shows during our dinner (only video was taken) š„.

Dinner ended with a fun little creation: a vanilla mochi nose š¦, sweet pancake š„, berry sauce š, and fruit š! It was a perfect ending.
Note: He was much cuter before I tipped him over, and the berry sauce began running š.

The only other disappointing element was the Yum Yum Sauce was a little watered down. It wasn't thick like I'm used to. However, the teriyaki-like sauce was delicious and made up for it in flavor š!
We ordered the Teppaniku menu selection for 56 euros per person š¶. It came with hors d'oeuvres, seasonal vegetables, yakitori, chicken cutlet, lamb racks, soup, fried rice/fried noodles, filet of beef/beef roll, fried vegetables, and a dessert pancake/fruit.
I was eyeing the seafood option, but I was not trying to spend over 100 euros that night.
Had to control myself š.
Booooo! Adulting sucks š!
